Academic Integrity

At Cape Breton University, we support students as they become successful academic citizens. Part of this support means educating students about the importance of academic integrity.

What is Academic Integrity?

Academic Integrity is a commitment to honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility. 皇冠体彩 students demonstrate academic integrity by earning their grades through hard work and dedication, not by cheating, plagiarizing or purchasing essays.

What is Plagiarism?

500 Internal Server Error

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there is an error in the application.

Intentional Plagiarism

Intentional plagiarism includes purchasing an assignment, submitting the same assignment more than once or copying and pasting the work of others without citations.

Accidental Plagiarism

Accidental plagiarism usually happens when citations aren’t used when quoting or paraphrasing someone else’s work. This can be avoided by the use of proper citations. The 皇冠体彩 Writing Centre offers workshops to help our students learn how to avoid accidental plagiarism.

Additional supports are in place to inform and assist students with academic integrity including:

  • Week of Welcome Orientation Sessions
  • Support Sessions at the 皇冠体彩 Library
  • Peer Success Coaches
  • On-line Modules created by the Centre for Teaching and Learning
  • In-Country Orientations for International Students
  • Marketing and Communication Materials Sent to Students
